Pollarding a tree is the pruning method used to keep trees at a certain height and size to prevent trees outgrowing the space they are in. The process involves pruning the main branch system heavily to short stubs, this promotes young re-growth and can be used to reduce the crown size of the tree therefore keeping it to the size required.
